  • MUI: Jangan Khawatir Kirim Anak ke Pesantren, Tapi Sebaiknya Selektif

    JAKARTA— Dewasa ini, kasus kekerasan seksual di lingkungan pondok pesantren sedang ramai diperbincangkan. Menanggapi hal tersebut Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI), mengimbau orang tua tidak perlu khawatir mengirim anaknya ke pesantren untuk menempuh pendidikan.

    “Saya mengimbau kepada segenap orang tua untuk tidak ragu menempatkan anaknya di pesantren sebagai alternatif terbaik tempat pendidikan dan pengasuhan putra-putrinya,” ucap Ketua Bidang Fatwa MUI, Asrorun Ni’am Sholeh kepada wartawan, Sabtu (9/7/2022).

    Dia mengatakan pesantren tetap alternatif pendidikan terbaik untuk anak, karena pengasuhan di pesantren berbasis keteladanan, dengan semangat kebersamaan, kesederhanaan, dan kedisiplinan dengan pembiasaan akhlak baik.

    “Pesantren tetap pilihan terbaik untuk pendidikan karakter. Pesantren merupakan lembaga pendidikan yang mengintegrasikan pendidikan formal, informal dan nonformal dengan pendekatan keteladanan serta pengasuhan yang terintegrasi,” ungkapnya.

    Lebih jauh, dia menyarankan kepada setiap orang tua agar lebih selektif dalam memilih pondok pesantren sebelum menempatkan putra putrinya di sana. Minimal dengan mengetahui kurikulum dan metode yang dipakai untuk pengajaran.

    “Sebelum menempatkan anak, orang tua harus memahami dan mengetahui kondisi faktual pesantren, mulai dari siapa saja pengasuhnya, mata pelajaran yang diajarkan, serta aktifitas kesehariannya,” kata pengasuh Pesantren Al-Nahdlah itu.

    Ni’am juga menjelaskan terkait solusi efektif yang menurutnya bisa membebaskan lingkungan pondok pesantren dari kekerasan seksual. Salah satunya dengan memperkuat tata kelola dan optimalisasi pelayanan pesantren.

    “Pengasuh pesantren juga perlu menguatkan tata kelola kepesantrenan untuk mengoptimalkan khidmat dan layanan pendidikan dan pengasuhan,” imbuhnya. (Nurul, ed: Nashih)

  • Gelar Pesantren Ramadhan, MUI Ingin Bangun SDM Unggul

    JAKARTA – Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) melalui Komisi Pendidikan dan Kaderisasi menggelar Pesantren Ramadhan selama tiga hari secara daring. Harapannya, dengan kegiatan ini MUI turut berkontribusi membangun sumber daya manusia yang unggul. Hal tersebut disampaikan Ketua Komisi Pendidikan dan Kaderisasi MUI, Prof Armai Arief saat menyampaikan sambutan, (15/4).

    “Kita ingin membangun SDM unggul, yaitu membangun manusia beriman, bertakwa, berahlak mulia, berilmu, cinta tanah air dan bertanggung jawab terhadap tanah air dan bangsa,” demikian kata Prof. Armai Arief.

    Menurut beliau, kegiatan pesantren Ramadhan akan diarahkan sesuai dengan tujuan Pendidikan nasional. Menurut UU No.20 tahun 2003 Pasal 3, tujuan pendidikan nasional berbunyi:

    “Pendidikan nasional berfungsi mengembangkan kemampuan dan membentuk watak serta peradaban bangsa yang bermartabat dalam rangka mencerdaskan kehidupan bangsa, bertujuan untuk berkembangnya potensi peserta didik agar menjadi manusia yang beriman dan bertakwa kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa, berakhlak mulia, sehat, berilmu, cakap, kreatif, mandiri, dan menjadi warga negara yang demokratis serta bertanggung jawab.”

    Selaras dengan yang disampaikan Prof Armai Arief, Ketua pelaksana kegiatan pesantren Ramadhan 1443 H, Titin Martinah menyampaikan bahwa maksud dari penyelenggaraan kegiatan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan iman dan takwa generasi muda.

    “Kegiatan ini memiliki tiga tujuan. Pertama, meningkatkan kecintaan pemuda terhadap Islam wasathiyah. Kedua, menumbuhkan kesadaran pemuda dalam menyikapi masuknya budaya asing yang bertentangan dengan Islam. Ketiga, membangun pribadi muslim beriman, berahlak mulia dan bertakwa,” ungkapnya.

    Dalam penyelenggaraannya, kegiatan Pesantren Ramadhan ini berkolaborasi dengan ESQ (Emotional, Spiritual, Quotient) Leadership Center dibawah pimpinan Ary Ginanjar Agustian.

  • Kembangkan Ekonomi dan Keuangan Syariah Berbasis Pesantren

    JAKARTA — Ketua Umum Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) pusat Prof. Dr. KH. Ma’ruf Amin, mengungkapkan bahwa pesantren merupakan tempat terbaik untuk pengembangan sistem ekonomi dan keuangan berbasis syariah terutama di masa pandemi

    Hal ini ia ungkapkan dalam dialog special berjudul “Optimalisasi Kontribusi Ekonomi dan Perbankan Syariah di Era New Normal” yang diadakan secara virtual, Kamis (06/08) Siang.

    Dalam pengembangan ekonomi syariah di sektor riil, beberapa pesantren sudah mulai mengembangkan usaha di bidang peternakan, perkebunan, maupun pertanian. Penjualan produk nya pun tak sebatas antarkota saja, melainkan sudah sampai pada tahap ekspor.

    “Di Bandung ada pesantren yang mengelola sayur mayur dan dijual melalui online sampai keluar negeri. Bahkan penjualan nya meningkat di masa pandemi ini, dia bisa mengirim produknya sampai ke Singapore,” ungkap Kiai Ma’ruf.

    Tak hanya itu, dalam sektor keuangan setiap pondok pesantren juga telah membentuk dua kelembagaan baru yang berbentuk koperasi yaitu Badan Wakaf Mikro (BWM) dan Baitul Maal wa Tamsil (BMT). Lembaga inilah yang fokus bergerak pada pengembangan usaha dan pemberdayaan masyarakat melalui lingkungan pondok pesantren.

    “Dua lembaga ini bergerak dalam hal permodalan. Bahkan di Sidogiri, permodalan sudah mencapai 10 triliun. Sudah bisa membangun supermarket, BPRS. Ini di sektor keuangan,” kata ma’ruf.

    Ia berharap besar bahwa upaya ini akan berkembang dan mampu membantu dalam hal perbaikan kondisi perekonomian dan peningkatan kesejahteraan masyarakat sekitar lingkungan pondok pesantren.

    “Apabila ini nanti berhasil menggabungkan sector keuangan dengan sector rill di lingkungan pesantren, maka masyarakat di sekitarnya akan ikut berkembang dengan baik ekonominya,” ucapnya.

    Wakil Ketua Komite Nasional Ekonomi dan Keungan Syariah (KNEKS) ini juga berharap agar Indonesia mampu menjadi pusat ekonomi syariah di dunia melalui pengembangan 4 sektor industri, yakni industri halal, industri keuangan, dana sosial masyarakat, dan bisnis berbasis syariah.
    Saat ini halal menjadi isu global, tidak hanya bagi negara dengan mayoritas penduduk Muslim saja.

    Maka dari itu, menurutnya, kesempatan terbuka lebar bagi masyarakat Indonesia untuk membuka berbagai bentuk industri halal di berbagai kawasan. Menyangkut semua produk halal, baik jasa, maupun wisata.

    “Bahkan semua (Negara) membuka industri halal, seperti Singapore, kemudian di Taiwan, jepang, dll. Seperti Korea, ia ingin menjadi negara yang menguasai dunia dengan industri kosmetik namun tetap bersertifikasi halal,” ungkap Kiai Ma’ruf. (Nurul/Din)

  • Ketua MUI Bidang Pemberdayaan Ekonomi Umat: Pesantren akan Jadi Penggerak Ekonomi Indonesia

    JAKARTA — Ketua Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) Bidang Pemberdayaan Ekonomi Umat, Lukmanul Hakim mengatakan, pesantren mampu menjadi motor penggerak ekonomi Indonesia. Perkataan tersebut bukan tanpa alasan, karena disampaikan saat PT Kimia Farma menandatangani nota kesepahaman (MoU) dengan 30 Pesantren di Pulau Jawa, Rabu (28/11) pagi, di Jakarta.

    “Dengan kerja sama ini, pesantren-pesantren akan menjadi motor penggerak ekonomi Indonesia. Kerjasama bidang kesehatan, dari mulai klinik obat nanti akan ada pembinaan dari Kimia Farma,” ungkapnya.

    Kerjasama tersebut, paparnya, merupakan bentuk Arus Baru Ekonomi Indonesia yang selama ini dicanangkan MUI sejak April 2017 lalu. Dengan potensi sumberdaya yang luar biasa, tugas pesantren tinggal mengubah potensi tersebut menjadi nyata. Bila sumberdaya itu dikembangkan, maka akan menggerakkan ekonomi berbasis keumatan.

    “Pesantren itu sumber dayanya banyak dan punya potensi yang luar biasa. Pesantren itu mengarahkan santri-santrinya apa aja jadi, bisa tinggal kita bagaimana mengkonversi itu,” katanya.

    Pada kesempatan itu, pria yang juga menjabat direktur LPPOM MUI ini menerangkan, PT Kimia Farma akan bekerjasama dengan 30 pondok pesantren di Pulau Jawa guna membangun klinik-klinik di masing-masing pondok pesantren. Tidak hanya klinik, di pesantren-pesantren itu juga akan dibuat lahan pertanian yang ditanami tumbuhan obat-obatan.

    Ke depan, ia berharap kerjasama seperti ini meluas sampai ke pesantren-pesantren luar Jawa, bahkan kalau bisa dari Sabang sampai Merauke.

    “Kita harapkan nanti Kimia Farma juga bisa membantu pengembangan ekonomi pesantren dari Sabang sampai Merauke,” paparnya. (Azhar/Din)

    Post 9/11 era comes with the attempt to study roots of religious extremism, militancy and overall radicalization of society, where focus has been shifted towards centers of religious education known as Madrassahs. Some scholars have linked extremism to poverty and deprivation in society and have stated that kids of the poor are enrolled in Madrassahs due to lack of financial resources required for their upbringing. This notion can be held only partially true, especially when it comes to Madrassahs in the Urban and semi-Urban settlements.

    The poor and deprived expect their kids to help and contribute to the incomes of their families by getting involved in work based apprenticeship or doing small jobs. Most of the parents who send their kids to Madrassah can afford their school education but it’s disillusionment with the school education in terms of end results that forced them to send their kids to Madrassahs.

    “My son went to school for eleven years and left it after he was unsuccessful in matriculation exams. These nine years have gone in vain as he is unable to get a job for this education and driving a Rickshaw but my daughter has two years teaching course at a local Madrassah and she gets three to four thousands for three hours of teaching in a nearby girl’s Madrassah” says Ejaz Tanoli.

    “A boy enrolled in a Madrassah gets ten to twelve years of education and he becomes a Hafiz-e-Quran and Aalim as well, having respect in society and reasonable income” Teacher at a local Madrassah stated.

    Also, increased radicalization and religiosity among the middle classes have compelled them to send their children to Madrassahs. Some of these Madrassahs have separate sections for them having better living facilities and separate kitchens and dining places from the common students.

    “We have a separate section for the sons and daughters of those parents living abroad and have sent their kids to have religious education. Their parents bear tuition fees and boarding charges of their children and also support the Madrassahs with donations and Zakat of their own and from their families and relatives as well,” a teacher from Jamia Binoria said.

    Mufti Naeem, Principal of Jamia Binoria SITE has half a dozen LCDs installed at his office linked to CCTV cameras showing various sections of Madrassahs to the visitors including separate cooking and dining facilities for the commoners and sections of foreign students.

    “Most of the well established business families too have their children enrolled at the section for foreign students,” says Mufti Naeem.

    After graduating from these Madrassahs, these students from the business families get involved with their own businesses or keep their relationship with the Madrassahs by teaching honorarily. In both cases, they help the Madrassahs in acquiring financial resources from other businessmen.

    Another interesting example comes from the graduates from Darul Uloom Karachi run by the Usmani brothers. One Mufti Rafi Usmani is a self-acclaimed grand Mufti of Pakistan and Mufti Taqi Usmani is former Justice Sharia Court and one of the pioneers of Islamic Banking across the globe. Disciples of the Usmani brothers have been associated to the growing network of Islamic Banking in Pakistan and Insurance companies.

    Following the trends, all the commercial banks have brought Arabicized versions of various banking services and products and opened separate branches for the purpose. It has created a space for the Madrassah graduates to work as members of the Sharia boards to keep a constant eye over these services to obey Islamic principles as envisaged by the ideologues like Taqi Usmani.

    It is interesting to note that well known Deobandi Madrassah Jamia Binori Town has come up with a Fatwa against these banking practices but it has hardly attracted any attention. But when the Mudariba business, run by the academic staff of Jamia Binoria SITE, offered very high interest rates as compared to the banking profits by Islamic banks, business of these banks was severely affected and they had a sigh of relief when the Mudariba business turned out to be a financial scam depriving thousands of people of their investments and savings.

    “There were times, when we were engaging with people coming for the prayers to get some financial help for ourselves or for the Madrassahs we teach at, but now we engage with them to sell Insurance Policy (known as Takaful) and earn commission” A local Imam said with amusement.

    There will be hardly any Deobandi cleric in Karachi, which has not been directly or indirectly affected by the Mudariba scam, whenever there is a religious gathering, you will hear them lamenting and asking each other about the losses they have incurred.

    “We ask each other but know it very well that no one will tell you the exact figure, and will exaggerate or understate it depending on the expected reaction of the one who is asking” Said Maulana Mushtaq, one of the hundreds who were affected by the biggest ever Mudariba scam.

    Introducing modern means of communication and high speed internet have helped the Madrassah graduates to establish connections with the outside world. They have access to radical literature from all over the world. On the other side, they were able to interact with expat families, who are concerned for their kids’ religious education abroad. They are providing religious education through Skype and other VoIP services to their kids and earning $100 to $150 dollars a month.

    “There are countless such pages and groups on the social network, where you can offer your services or acquire a teacher for your kids to have two to four hour per weeks teaching sessions for a small fee,” said a student of Jamia Bilal Masjid, Baldia Town.

    Another less focused aspect is the network of Madrassahs for girls. There exists a heated debate among religious circles about the utility of these Madrassahs and education for girls as some of the conservative clerics are concerned about its moral consequences as most of the Madrassahs have no boarding facilities for girls and Madrassahs are compelled to provide transport facilities as well because parents hesitate in sending their girls in local transports on daily basis. Lack of efficient female teachers forced them to allow interaction of male teachers with the girls, which have in some cases given rise to various issues.

    Some people want their kids to have both religious and modern education as well. For the purpose, a network of “Iqra schools” has been established under the supervision of religious clerics. These schools aimed to get their students learn the Holy Quran by heart (Hafiz Quran) along with secondary education. These schools have text books of its own approved by the boards of religious clerics.

    First network of these schools was established by late Mufti Muhammad Jameel of Jamia Binori Town with the name of “Iqra Rozatul Atfal” followed by others keeping Iqra in the names but changing the last words.

    Their text books for English too have attempted to Arabicize pronunciation of terms used for various Islamic notions. It also omits facial attributes and promotes Hijab in pictorial presentations of the classrooms.

    First impression, which comes to the mind after reviewing these books is, “If your kid doesn’t go to a Madrassah, the Madrassah will come to him the other way.
