Integrative Learning Strategies for Enhancing Critical Thinking in Islamic Religious Education

This research employs a qualitative approach to explore integrative learning strategies aimed at enhancing critical thinking skills in Islamic Religious Education at the secondary school level in Padang, Indonesia. The study involved four teachers and 120 students from various classes to provide a comprehensive perspective. Given the increasing importance of critical thinking in education, especially in subjects that shape students’ moral and ethical foundations, this research emphasizes the crucial role of developing these skills within Islamic Religious Education. Data were collected through direct classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and students to capture their experiences and insights on the strategies used, and a detailed analysis of relevant teaching materials. The findings reveal that group discussions create a dynamic environment where students can exchange ideas, broaden perspectives, and develop critical arguments. Case study analyses enable students to connect religious concepts to real-life situations, reinforcing the practical significance of religious teachings. Problem-solving activities promote logical, systematic, and reflective thinking skills, especially when addressing complex moral and ethical dilemmas. The study also highlights that these strategies not only enhance students’ critical thinking but also increase their active engagement in learning, deepen their understanding of religious teachings, and foster a reflective approach toward moral values. This research offers an in-depth understanding of the effectiveness of integrative learning strategies in Islamic Religious Education and underscores their relevance in preparing students to meet the demands of modern education, which prioritizes critical thinking skills.

This paper discusses the critical issue of ethical communication, specifically controlling the tongue, a concept deeply embedded in Islamic teachings that holds profound relevance in today’s global context. As societies grapple with the pervasive problems of slander (fitna), discord, hatred, and bullying, the simple yet powerful ethical principle of tongue control emerges as a crucial tool for fostering harmony. In modern times, the spread of fake news and hoaxes has been widely discussed as an external threat to social cohesion, yet the internal discipline of speech—whether metaphorical or literal—has received far less attention. This paper seeks to address this gap by exploring how the Islamic insight to control one’s tongue can effectively prevent the spread of fitna, the escalation of hatred, the prevalence of bullying, and the rise of extremism and radicalism. Through narrative construction, the paper examines the deep-seated negative impacts of these harmful practices and underscores the significance of verbal discipline in mitigating them. By highlighting the intrinsic value of controlling the tongue, the paper aims to present a holistic approach to curbing not only external threats like misinformation but also the internal moral lapses that contribute to societal discord, thereby promoting a more peaceful and just world in alignment with Islamic ethical principles.

This study explores comprehensive strategies to strengthen national identity among Indonesian students, addressing the crucial need for a cohesive national identity in Indonesia’s ethnically and culturally diverse society. The research identifies and analyzes several key approaches, including curriculum development, extracurricular activities, cultural immersion programs, and the use of digital media, to foster a strong sense of national pride and unity. The integration of national history, civic education, and values into the school curriculum is highlighted as fundamental. By ensuring that students receive a thorough understanding of Indonesia’s heritage, struggles for independence, and national achievements, educational institutions can instil a deep sense of belonging and responsibility towards the nation. Extracurricular activities, such as student organizations, sports, arts, and community service projects, are also emphasized for their role in providing experiential learning opportunities that reinforce national values and social cohesion. Cultural immersion programs are identified as another critical strategy. These programs, which include traditional arts, music, dance, and language preservation initiatives, allow students to engage with Indonesia’s rich cultural tapestry, fostering appreciation and respect for the nation’s diversity. Furthermore, the strategic use of digital media is examined as a modern approach to connecting students across different regions and promoting national narratives. Digital platforms can disseminate stories of national heroes, cultural heritage, and contemporary achievements, thereby enhancing students’ collective national consciousness. The study underscores the importance of a multifaceted approach involving educational institutions, government policies, and community participation. It recommends that policymakers and educators collaborate to implement these strategies effectively, creating an environment that nurtures a strong, cohesive national identity among Indonesian youth. By doing so, the nation can build a resilient and unified future generation capable of contributing positively to Indonesia’s development and stability.

    Link: https://pub.darulfunun.id/index.php/jrdti/article/view/63

This research aims to evaluate the ablution proficiency of second-grade students at 24 Biaro State Elementary School during the academic year 2023/2024 and to explore the effectiveness of using visual and audio-visual media in enhancing this skill. Previously, ablution instruction at this school primarily relied on lecture-based methods that often failed to actively engage students, resulting in suboptimal learning outcomes. However, with the introduction of visual and audio-visual aids as a new innovation in ablution instruction, the learning environment has become more stimulating and interactive. The use of these media provides students with the opportunity to actively participate in the learning process. They can clearly observe the correct sequence and techniques for performing ablution, both in physical movements and in reciting relevant verses. The importance of accurate pronunciation in ablution recitations is also emphasized, prompting the researcher to adopt a method of reciting the verses aloud to swiftly detect and correct pronunciation errors. Data collected from this study were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques. The results indicate a significant improvement in ablution proficiency when visual and audio-visual media are employed in instruction. Comparisons of students’ practical test results from pre-cycle to cycle II show consistent improvement, with the highest scores achieved in cycle II. This confirms the hypothesis that the use of visual and audio-visual aids can enhance ablution proficiency among second-grade students at 24 Biaro State Elementary School.

Pengembangan TDR-IM Sistem Informasi Manajemen Keuangan Siswa di Pondok Pesantren: Integrasi, Simplifikasi dan Digitalisasi

    Link: http://pub.darulfunun.id/index.php/jrdti/article/view/28

The general problem of the difficulty of developing pondok pesantren is due to limited resources and an inaccurate interpretation of the position of pondok pesantren, in particular the improved management of the national education system and the 2019 UU No. 18 about Pesantren. The development of a student financial management system was carried out at PPM Perguruan Darulfunun El-Abbasiyah (Lima Puluh Kota, Sumatera Barat) using TDR-IM approach: 1) integration, 2) simplification, and 3) digitization. As a result of development, we have seen a significant increase in TDR components, especially data management components. The development of this student financial management system will improve the efficiency of operations and record keeping. This increase has also led to a more accountable and transparent student finance system. This student financial management system development also provides effective services, giving students and their legal guardians a planning guarantee for administrative expenses. The biggest obstacle in developing this financial management system is low literacy in general, especially in financial and technology literacy.

COVID-19 as a pandemic was both disturbing and shocking. While people were so confused and lost direction on how to deal with it, they also panicked and tried every way to make themselves and their relatives safe. People develop procedures that require advanced equipment to support those high-cost and complex procedures. People prioritize cleanliness in order to maintain a safe environment. Elaborating tafseer Al-Maidah verse 6 can be a constructive alternative to maintaining cleanliness. The cleanliness standard procedure in Islam was simplified, but it maintained obedience’s deep meaning. Ablution (wudu) is the main procedure with preconditions and also offers alternatives for specific conditions. Water and dry sand (clean earth) are hygiene agents for cleanliness procedures and purification.

The scholarly world is a divine devotion. It needs time and effort to be consistent and persistent in improving the understanding of society. The more literate society, the more hope for a better environment. Today’s world needs more scholarly work not just to amaze the concept but also can impact society. Women’s roles in education are tremendous to take learning environment from an early age. The references about women scholars are so limited that we will assume there is the little impact made. This paper shows how women’s intellectual influence has made a massive contribution since the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) period. The shift in women’s roles is contextual and depends on the understanding of society and the development progress of the education ecosystem itself. We hope the tremendous past work can inspire us to build an advanced learning society to improve the education process today.

Moderate Way Implementing Rukyah and Hisab to Determine A New Moon in Ramadan

    Link: http://pub.darulfunun.id/index.php/imam/article/view/12

Rukyah and hisab have already become critical discussions in Islamic knowledge. Controversy arose, and the debate continues today. Some scholars prefer to use one method over another, while some scholars today try to offer moderate approaches for better solutions and understanding. Scholars claim both rukyah and hisab using the prophet Muhammad’s hadith references. In comparison, a modest society is accessible to apply rukyah as their way to determine the new Ramadhan, and some complex cultures are multicultural, multi sects, or have a wide coverage area. This complexity will affect the observation process’s difficulty, accuracy, and potential differences. This situation needs sensible solutions to determine the new Ramadhan. This paper tries to elaborate on each approach used by scholars and authorities, its preconditions, and how the approaches should be moderated to determine the new moon optimally by developing a strategy that gives mutual feedback to each method.

Neo-modernism emerged when the term post-modernism began when the term began to become a common discourse when many experts began to get displeased with the negative effects that modernity, either from the aspect of sociocultural structure or scientific aspects. Neo-modernism, if traced to its existence, is in the thoughts of Fazlur Rahman (1970). While in Indonesia itself has Neo-modernism figures namely Nurcholish Madjid and Abdurrahman Wahid. As moralists and democrats, they have a complete, comprehensive, inclusive, and even free understanding of Islam. Therefore, their ideological and political actions often cause controversy. Even if they differ in practice, they have a paradigm of Islamic thought. Since Cak Nur put forward the jargon “Islam yes” and “Partai Islam no” in the 1970s, the integration of Islam and national opinion began to surface. Since then, the struggle for Islam through cultural channels has continued, and Muslims have also begun to participate in nation-building. In 1984, when NU under the leadership of Gus Dur approved Pancasila as the only precept, the relationship between Islam and the State grew stronger.
